In April 2022, it is with great sadness that we learned of the Nakagin Capsule Tower’s imminent dismantlement and destruction. Indeed this notorious landmark of the Metabolism Architectural Movement has constantly stimulated and fed our imagination. Its importance goes beyond its conceptual structure, and despite its removal from Tokyo, it deserves to be celebrated.

Therefore we ask ourselves, what has and will become of the recent and current tenants? What of their habitat and the dreams they had and still have regarding the Metabolism Architectural Movement? How can we celebrate these memories instead of being depressed about those losses?

In an increasingly anxiety-inducing climate, we feel an irrational need for optimism. Rather than rejecting codes of a past era, we tap into its foundations to rekindle the euphoria and fantasy that the present lacks.
